Utopia has launched a health promotion campaign that uses healthcare workers from refugee communities delivering health promotion in their language. At Utopia, we have doctors, nurses and bicultural workers who themselves come from families affected by displacement. They are well-placed to know the needs of the community and deliver messages in language that is familiar to the community.
In our first video, our nurse Juliette (who is also training to become a midwife) talks about pregnancy and pre-pregnancy care in Karenni. To access this talk and more that will follow, please check out our Facebook page.
Many thanks to the Northwest Melbourne Primary Health Network for providing the funding for this project and a big thanks to my colleague and friend Dr Kathryn Winter for coordinating this project.
The work we do at Utopia is difficult. It is a labour of love from each and every person who works here. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support the work we do. You can make a difference.
